Early departure onto the Roman road, by 4×4, toward the Saharian city of Douz and through the Berber village of Toujane and the famous troglodyte village of Matmata, where you will visit a troglodyte home. In Douz, at the gate of the desert, you will have some free time to discover the city center and enjoy a camel ride on the white sand dunes (extra fee).
Lunch at a local restaurant. Departure in the early afternoon for the city of Tozeur, on the way there, you will admire the “roots of the dunes”, a very original scenery. Photo break during the ride across “Chott El Jerid” salt lake where mirages appear on the horizon. Dinner and night in a 3* hotel in Tozeur.
The 4×4 tour heads toward the town of Metlaoui, where we board onto the famous train of the Bey named ”The Red Lizard“, for a journey across the canyons of Selja (shooting location of movie “Wild Wild West”).
Then we resume our 4×4 tour for a visit of the mountain oases : Midès, Tamerza (lunch – visit of the waterfalls) and Chebika. Then off to Ong Djemel (shooting location of “Star Wars” movies) to admire the fabulous sunset colors on the high sand dunes of the Sahara. Return to Tozeur. Dinner and night at the hotel.
Departure by carriage, across the palm grove up to “Eden Palm” and visit of the Palm tree Museum. Return to the city center to discover the ancient Medina of Tozeur and especially in the district of Ouled el Halef.
Lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, visit of a traditional Tozeur brickyard and then visit of the oasis valley named “Corbeille de Nefta” (The Nefta basket),and its pedestrian sight-seeing tour “Ras El Ain”. Then back to Tozeur for dinner and night at the hotel.
Departure for the town of Gabes, across the salt lake Chott El Djerid, with a stop at Kebili warm water springs. Continuation of our trip to Gabes through El Hamma. Visit of the popular market of Jara (spices, henna and wickerwork), an ancient slave market and crossing of Gabes seaside oasis. Lunch at a local restaurant. Return to Djerba island by ferry. Dinner and night at your 3* hotel, half-board formula.
A complete day dedicated to the discovery of Djerba Island landmarks and culture, by 4X4 : Visit of a traditional menzel by the owner, who will welcome you with a tea and treats. Then off to the Ghriba, one of the world oldest synagogue, built after the destruction of Solomon’s temple, by Jews seeking shelter in Djerba island. You will visit another religious and ancient landmark, the underground mosquee of Cedouikech. Then we continue our tour toward El Kantara, to visit the archeological site of Meninx.
Back to the present, and toward Guellala, the pottery capital of the island. And to get a wide view of social and agricultural traditions of Djerba, a visit of the Heritage museum. Lunch at a local restaurant. Then visit of a craftsman pottery studio, and demonstration of clay work. You will pursuit your island tour by the wild coast to see the seaside mosquee of Sidi Djmour, and the traditional fixed fisheries of Borj Djelil. Stop at Houmt Souk, the island capital for a visit of the city center. Return to the hotel for dinner and night.
Free time during the day to enjoy the beautiful sandy beaches of Djerba and the relaxation facilities of your hotel, half board formula.
