From the Bardo Museum in Tunis to Carthage and Sidi Bou Said : from Carthaginian and Roman builders …

Departure from your hotel in Hammamet or Tunis to discover the Bardo Museum. This is the largest Tunisian museum, and one of the largest in the Mediterranean basin. Originally called Alaoui Museum, named after the reigning Bey in 1888, the Bardo museum houses one of the finest and largest collections of Roman mosaics in the world.
Your discovery of Tunis will continue with a walk through the narrow streets of the old medina and the visit of the medersa Slimania, a former Koranic school. Then, your steps will lead you to the Tourbet El Bey, the necropolis of the reigning princes of the dynasty Husseinite and their families, dynasty that ruled in Tunisia from the early 18th century until after independence. After the great Zitouna mosque, you will pass through the bazaar to Bab El Bahr or “Porte de France”, to join the souks where local artisans make traditional fez, djellabas and burnous. Rapid transfer will take you to lunch at a tourist restaurant near the beach of La Goulette.

At the bottom of the Gulf of Tunis, Carthage remains amaze you with their size and wealth of their buildings. So, you will discover Byrsa Hill, the Tophet of Salammbo, the Punic ports and the Antonine Baths.

… to the modern world writers and artists

On a hill at about twenty kilometers from Tunis, the site of Sidi Bou Said has been occupied by the Carthaginians and the Romans. From the 17th century the Tunisian middle class built luxury homes in Sidi Bou Said. Then from the 19th century, the village attracts many artists such as Baron d’Erlanger, painter, musicologist and great Orientalist. Many writers, including Chateaubriand, Flaubert, Alphonse de Lamartine, André Gide, Simone de Beauvoir and many others enjoyed the charms of the place.
Landmark in the colors of the Mediterranean Sea, protected since 1915 and a World Heritage by UNESCO in 1979, the site is known as the “little white and blue paradise”.
