Discovery program towards Tozeur, special for groups of friends or students.
Day 1 – Djerba, Matmata, Douz, Chott El Djerid, Tozeur
Departure from Djerba, by 4×4, early in the morning at 07h00, and on the way to Tozeur!
We will make a first stop in the old town of Matmata, to visit a troglodyte dwelling. This typical habitat of the region has the particularity to be built by digging the rock or the earth and to provide a perfect insulation to the inhabitants. During the visit we will taste a breakfast of fresh bread, honey and olive oil.
After this cultural and gourmet break, the journey continues towards the town of Douz. This city is nicknamed “the gateway to the desert”, on the edge of the famous white sand dunes. For our next stop, with a photo stop, we will admire the “roots of the dunes”, a poetic landscape of fossilised sand eroded by the wind.
As we approach Tozeur, we will cross the Chott El Djerid salt lake and take a photo/coffee break to admire this amazingly bright landscape of salt crystals and the deceptive mirages in the distance.
Finally arrived in Tozeur, you will have some time for a free lunch, then we will start the visits by
the palm museum located in the heart of the palm grove of Tozeur, where you can not only discover the history of the culture of the date palm in Tunisia but also walk in the palm grove and taste culinary specialties based on dates created on site. We will continue the afternoon with a walking tour of the medina of Tozeur with its particular architecture with its brick patterns in relief and its covered galleries.
At the end of the day, we will take you to a local restaurant for dinner and overnight stay in a charming residence.
Day 2 – The mountain oases of Tozeur
In the morning, an excursion is proposed for the visit in 4X4 of the mountain oases (source of Chebika, waterfalls of Tamerza and canyons of Midès) or a sporting morning (option in extra) with wall of climbing, course of accrobranche and relaxation in the palm grove of Tozeur.
After lunch in the old town of Tozeur, we will drive to the oasis of Sabria. After settling into Bedouin tents, you will have free time until sun set over the white sand dunes, before dinner at the camp.
Day 3 – Sabria, Kebili, Ksar Ghilane, Djerba
In the morning, we will head for the hot springs of Kebili and then Ksar Ghilane to discover the Saharan oasis. You will have free time for a bath in the hot spring or for optional extra activities (camel ride or quad bike).
After lunch on the edge of the Sahara, we will take the way back to Djerba, passing by Ksar Hallouf, a group of ancient Berber fortified granaries, in the Dahar massif. We will return to the island of Djerba via the “Roman Road”.
