Early pick-up at your hotel or accommodation, and departure from Djerba island by the Roman roadway. Photo break at the salt lake called “Sebket el Melah”. We continue our trip toward “Tataouine-les-bains”. Before to get to look at the former French military prison, we stop for a coffee break with possibility to ride on camelback in the near sand dunes (optional activity). At the entrance of Tataouine city, view on the former French military penal colony closed in 1938. Visit of a traditional craft village : jewelry, woodwork, leather-work, weaving… (subject to opening) Then a ride of a few kilometers on a picturesque road will lead you up to Ksar Jelidat, in order to admire a set of perfectly conserved fortified granaries typical of Tataouine and the “ksours” area, due to its Berber population. Lunch at a boutique hotel in Tataouine.

… From the Prehistory to the present day.

Early in the afternoon, visit of the Earth Memory Museum which demonstrates the presence of many dinosaurs in the Tataouine region during the Mesozoic era (subject to opening). Then we take the road towards the ancient village of Ghomrassen and the rock paintings of Aïn Sefri Caves. Free time in Tataouine to taste and purchase the region’s pastry specialty: “gazelle horns”. Break at the base of the cliff to take photos of Sidi Arfa Marabout landmark; the marabout sits atop a cliff overlooking the city of its height. Return along Oued’s canyon el Khil.
In the late afternoon, return to Djerba island by the Roman roadway. Our team drop you off at your hotel or accommodation, right in time for dinner, after a day tour of Tataouine full of discoveries.

Given the uncertainties encountered on this program, changes may be proposed including the visit of Ksar Haddada (Star Wars filming location) and the Berber citadel of Guermessa, a World Heritage Site by Unesco.
