From the first dunes, on the edge of the Tunisian desert…
Focus: bivouac in the Sahara desert in Tunisia! After a departure, on 8 am, from your place of residence, you will leave the island of Djerba towards the Great Oriental Erg. You make a comfortable transfer by 4×4, across the mountains of Dahar, to meet our Saharian camel guide and his cameleers team. Lunch will be served at the foot of the first dunes on the edge of the desert. Further to this first contact with the Tunisian desert, the caravan will start a short trek to a few kilometers in the Sahara in search of a place conducive to a Saharian camp.
…to a camp in the desert under the stars in the Sahara.
Nestled in the dunes, protected by tamarisk bushes or under the fragrant twigs of Retama raetam, kind of broom white flowers, you will build your camp. You can participate in the unloading of camels and assembling the tents, unless you prefer to sleep under the stars. You can also help the camel drivers to pick the dead wood to make fire, where in the embers, cook the bread of sand. For food lovers, it will be possible to assist in the preparation of dinner.
The camel drivers will cheer up your evening with a few pieces of music or traditional songs. The stories and riddles are also the ritual of these vigils bivouac in the desert of the Tunisian Sahara …
When the first rays of the sun will warm you, it will be time to enjoy the show on the dunes. Breakfast served around the fire will enable you to recharge your batteries to get you back on the road towards the starting point of your trek.
You will meet your driver for the transfer back to the island of Djerba. This course will be embellished with few stops, sightseeings and lunch. You will back to your hotel in Djerba or Zarzis in late afternoon.
