From mountain villages, in southern Tunisia, to rocky desert…
Departure at 7:00 am from your place of residence in Djerba or Zarzis, in confortable 4X4, for a day of discovery to southern Tunisia, with in focus, the Sahara. We leave the island of Djerba by the Roman road which connects the island to the mainland. Arriving to Beni Keddache, visit to Ksar Jouamaa, set of ancient fortified granaries from the 13th century, then continue the journey towards the Saharan oasis of Ksar Ghilane, by the track. Coffee break in the middle of nowhere, between the rocky desert of the reg and the first sand dunes of the erg.

Arrival at the Saharan oasis of Ksar Ghilane late morning : out of sight, ocher dunes of the Great Oriental Erg, and far away, the Roman ruins of ancient fort of Tisavar. Free time for swimming in the spring natural hot water with termal properties, or for a camel ride, or quad ride, in the Sahara sand dunes (optional extra activities). Lunch in a camp and start, in the beginning of the afternoon, to observe animals near a water source.
Back to Djerba island across Matmata and its cave houses
We make our way back to the island of Djerba across, Matmata to visit a troglodyte house inhabited by a Berber family. These atypical houses have the distinction of being arranged around a courtyard at the bottom of a dug well in the clay layer, the other parts of the house are digged laterally into the rock and ground. Back to Djerba end of the day, we take the ferry that connects the island to the mainland, between the cliffs of Jorf, and the small fishing port of Ajim. The 4×4 driver drop you at your place of residence.
