New Years Eve 2023/2024: celebrate with originality, the end of 2023 in the desert.
From Djerba to the Sahara, for Eve under the stars in the desert
Pick-up and departure at 8:00 am from your stay in Djerba or Zarzis, by comfortable 4X4, for a full day crossing of discovery of southern Tunisia, with the Sahara as an objective. We reach the mainland, leaving the island of Djerba by the Roman road. Before arriving in Beni Keddache we visit Ksar Jouamaa, a set of ancient fortified granaries from the 13th century. Then we continue our tour towards the Saharian oasis of Ksar Ghilane, by the tracks, sometimes sandy and soft, sometimes rocky and brittle. Before returning to the road, in the middle of nowhere, between the reg of stone desert and the first sand dunes of the Erg, we do an unusual stop in a cafe arise from the sands.
Even before the arrival at the Saharian oasis of Ksar Ghilane, late morning, we see, across the line of the horizon, the first cord of ocher dunes of the Grand Erg Oriental. On the other side of the oasis, we see the ruins of Tisavar, the ancient Roman fort. Those who wish, can have a bath in the natural hot spring water with thermal properties. Others have the necessary free time for a camel ride or quad ride (optional extra activities), in the dunes of the Sahara. Lunch is served at the oasis.
Early in the afternoon, we do a transfer by 4×4 by the track, which winds through the dunes to a comfortable and remote camp in the desert. After your installation, for the night under Bedouin tent, you have free time to admire the sunset over the Sahara, and prepare for the evening of New Year’s Eve 2023/2024, and dinner show of the end of 2023.

Drink around the wood fire, and dinner served at the table at the camp restaurant. Musical entertainment by a folk group, and camels’ fantasia. Musical entertainment by a DJ in the late evening.

From the Saharian oasis of Ksar Ghilane to the troglodyte houses in Matmata
After a night in a tent, on the edge of the Sahara, we go by track to observe animals near a water spring. Lunch will be served in a 3 * hotel in Matmata, and followed by a digestive walk to visit a troglodyte house inhabited by a Berber family. The parts of the house have the distinction of being arranged around a courtyard at the bottom of a well. These atypical houses are carved into the clay layer, and so have natural air conditioning. Our return to Djerba Island is through the small Berber village of Toujane clinging to the mountainside. (Photo stop and panoramic view during the descent of the massif Dahar). Back to Djerba in the late afternoon, we take the ferry that connects the island to the mainland, between the cliffs of Jorf and small fishing port of Ajim.
