Join the fairy of Douz festival with the magic of New Year’s Eve in the Sahara

International Sahara Festival of Douz

It was in 1910 that this manifestation was born, in the form of marathons of méharis and folkloric games, placed under the patronage of the resident general of France in Tunisia. This annual event lasts four days, usually at the end of December.
The first edition of the International Festival of the Sahara of Douz takes place in 1967. Today, this desert festival is a cultural and tourist heritage. Indeed, besides the celebration of the Saharan culture and nomadic, the International Festival of the Sahara of Douz is the occasion to bring together the populations of the governorate of Douz, in southern Tunisia, around outstanding figures. On the occasion of the 49th edition in January 2017, it was celebrated the centenary of the writter Mohamed Marzouki, author of famous books on the journey of the Bedouins; and the former President of the Tunisian Republic from 2011 to 2014, Moncef Marzouki, whose family is from Douz, honored the International Festival of Douz of his presence.
